Stand in the Gap Focus Programs to Address Widespread Community Issues
Women Impacted by Domestic Violence
- The state of Oklahoma ranks 10th for the highest number of battered women and children
- Oklahoma ranks 7th in the nation for women murdered by men
- There were 25,000 domestic disturbance calls placed to Tulsa 911 in 2005
- 62% of the children living in violent homes are also abused
- DVIS assisted over 2600 people in obtaining emergency protective orders in 2005
SITG is developing a program to address the significant problem of women and their children impacted by domestic violence, as well as the generational impact on the children. SITG launched a pilot program with The DaySpring Villa Women and Children’s Shelter (DSV) and local churches to form SITG families to support “guests” of the shelter and their children who are leaving or have left the shelter.
In 2010 we have increased our investment in our partnership with DSV by launching our Women in Transition training course that we’re teaching on a weekly basis. This training material is a good fit for these women who are starting their lives over and face many hurdles.
